Blount County Booking Photos
A Blount County booking photo is part of the booking record created when a person is processed through the Blount County Detention Center or another agency. Release does not erase the fact that a booking record was created. It changes the custody question. The person may no longer be on the current roster, but a recent release may still appear in the sheriff's released roster, and an older booking photo may have to be requested from the record custodian.
Alabama public-records law is broad but has limits. Alabama Code Section 36-12-40 gives residents a right to inspect and copy public records unless another law provides otherwise. Sheriff Roster and App
The Blount County AL Sheriff app gives residents a local photo channel beyond the website. The app is listed for both iOS and Android. The iOS page says the app includes press releases, inmates, most wanted, sex offenders, special alerts, FAQs, and contact or tip options. The Android page lists inmates, most wanted, registered offenders, and special alerts. Those app-store descriptions support checking the app as a sheriff-operated channel.
The research did not prove that the app keeps older booking photos after the web roster window expires. State the limit plainly: the app is another sheriff channel, not a verified archive. For recent releases, start with the sheriff's released roster because it pairs the booking photo with release date/time and the released-to field. Then check the app if the website view is hard to use, the person is still in a short public window, or a mobile channel is easier to search.
Blount County's local release list is a 48-hour list, not a separate 24-hour or 72-hour archive. A same-day photo search can use the 24-Hour Releases path by reading release date and time inside the official 48-hour roster. For older releases, the official online window may already have rolled off.
Request a Booking Photo
Records requests matter because Blount County's public released roster is short. The research found no dedicated sheriff public-records web form. - Keep the request narrow. Do not ask the sheriff to create a new report or explain the whole case history.
A useful request identifies the person's full name, date of birth if known, booking number if known, and approximate booking or release date. Ask for the booking photograph and booking/release record tied to that event. If the booking photo is withheld or redacted, ask which office holds the official record and whether a court order, expungement order, juvenile status, Youthful Offender status, or other restriction affects access.
ADOC and ALEA Photo Paths
A Blount County conviction can move from the local jail to ADOC. Once the person is in state prison, the sheriff roster is no longer the main photo source. ADOC's public inmate search may show current state-prison information or a current inmate photo, but ADOC says the database contains currently incarcerated inmates and that historical data is not available online. For a released state-prison photo or discharge record, use ADOC Central Records and the ADOC public-records process.
ALEA is a narrower channel. The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency maintains the Alabama Sex Offender Registry. ALEA states that not all offenders are available for public dissemination because of juvenile, Youthful Offender, or out-of-state status. The registry matters only for registrable released sex offenders. It is not a general Blount County mugshot search and should not be used as a substitute for a sheriff booking record.

That makes the sheriff roster the best first source for a recent Blount County release photo.
No Alabama pay-to-remove mugshot statute equivalent to some other states was confirmed in the research. Do not infer one. The practical route is official-source control: sheriff records for the county booking file, the circuit court for sealing or expungement orders, ADOC for state-prison records, and ALEA only when registry publication applies. Unofficial copies may exist elsewhere online, but they are outside the sheriff's official record system and are not official verification sources.
Important: A booking photo shows that a booking occurred. It does not prove the final case outcome, sentence, release reason, or current custody status.
Expungement and Photo Access
Alabama expungement law is in Title 15, Chapter 27. Section 15-27-1 covers certain misdemeanor, violation, traffic, and municipal ordinance records. Section 15-27-2 covers felony records and some conviction situations. Section 15-27-6 describes the effect of an expungement order on records held by the court and other agencies, with statutory exceptions. The petition is handled through the criminal division of the circuit court in the county where the charges were filed.
An expungement order can change public access to official records, but it does not prove that every copied image on the internet will disappear. For an official Blount County source, start with the court order and the office that maintains the record. If the question is the sheriff booking photo, contact the Blount County Sheriff's Office.
